Course: Purposeful English

Mission

To prepare students for real-world discussions in English about critical issues of our time.

Topics

A variety of topics will be discussed including science, spirituality, environment, economics, service, opportunity, tolerance, love, peace, creativity, and compassion.

Methods

A range of methods will be used to help students acquire English including reading, writing, doing art, having discussions, sharing, and participating in field trips. Grammar will be learned as students write papers, poems, and stories. Pronunciation will be addressed as students prepare to give presentations and/or speeches.

Assessment

Students will be encouraged to take the Eiken or TOEIC test before or at the beginning of the lessons and at 6-month intervals as lessons progress. There will also be short quizzes both online and during face-to-face sessions.

Format

There will be weekly face-to-face meetings and online discussions.

Times: Monday, 10:30 – 12:00 (maximum 5 students); Saturday, 4:30 – 6:00 (maximum 5 students)
